Facilitated by:  Cindy Gum

February 18, 2009

A conference for Assistant Principals is being sponsored by MAESP on Wednesday, February 18 at the MCSA Building, 3550 Amazonas Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri.  The conference will begin at 8 a.m. with registration and refreshments.

The Assistant Principal’s conference will include a session on Legal Issues as well as cover three major educational initiatives: Response to Intervention, Professional Learning Communities, and Positive Behavior Supports. The day will be packed with information and the presenters for each session are practicing experts from around the state, some of which have served as assistant principals during their careers.  In addition, the participants will have the opportunity after each presentation to join in a round table discussion to ask questions and/or give new information.

PLC – Presented by Matt Miller, principal of Stanton Elementary in the Rockwood School District and former President of MAESP. Matt has been an associate with Rick DuFour since 2003 and has worked with schools across the US on the key questions of a PLC. He also presents at PLC Summer Institutes and has worked in two schools recognized as Top Ten High Performing Schools.

PBS - Co-presented by Chris Daniels, principal of Chouteau Elementary, Bob Geist, principal of Maplewood Elementary, and Kevin Kooi, principal at Crestview Elementary, all part of the North Kansas City School District. The NKCSD has been involved with PBS for the past 5 years and two of these three schools have been recognized for their PBS progress with awards from DESE. They will also be presenting at the MAESP State Conference in March.

RTI – Co-presented by Tonya Pettypiece, principal, and Rhonda Davis, counselor from Reed Springs Elementary School in Southwest MO. Together, they have made several RTI presentations for other school districts, for principals in SW Missouri, and at RTI Conferences. They will also be presenting on February 8th at the Powerful Learning Conference and in March at the MAESP State Conference.

The conference will be facilitated by Cindy Gum who has served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the state of Missouri for the past 30 years and recently retired from the Camdenton School District. She is actively involved in the Administrator Mentor Training program (AMP) through DESE and serves as a mentor to beginning principals and assistant principals.
