The Missouri Council of School Administrators (MCSA) is excited to offer a Response to Intervention (RTI) Awareness Workshop for Missouri Educators on Friday, May 2, Jefferson City. Dr. Erica Lembke from the University of Missouri will join us for this dynamic day.  RTI  is gaining the attention of educators across the U. S.  Several states have already adopted and implemented an RTI model. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in conjunction with the UMKC is currently developing the “Missouri model”.  It will be in place for the 2008-2009 school year. Join us for this opportunity to learn what RTI can mean for your students.

What is RTI?
RTI is generally seen as a tiered model of intervention strategies designed to proactively reduce student academic failure.  In addition it is often used as a pre-referral technique for special education.

How did RTI come about?
The 2004 reauthorization of IDEA gives more financial flexibility to districts and schools to provide academic and behavioral services to support prevention and early identification of struggling learners. LEA’s (Local Education Authorities) can utilize up to 15% of Title I funds and up to 50% of any increases in federal funding to support early intervening services.

Who should attend?  RTI is a marriage between regular and special educators to help prevent student failure.  Participants in this workshop should include school administrators, special educators and regular educators.

What will the program include?
* A discussion of critical elements in an RTI model,
* An overview of implementation of screening and progess monitoring, including measures available, and
* A discussion regarding what constitutes evidence-based intervention and ideas about where to find evidence-based interventions.

When and where will the workshop be held?
The workshop will be held from 9:00-3:00 on Friday, May 2 at the MCSA Education Center, 3550 Amazonas Drive, Jefferson City  Lunch will be provided.
